What to Wear to Your Headshot Session
The right outfit can make or break a headshot. Here's everything you need to know to show up confident and camera-ready.
Solid, muted tones photograph best
Navy, charcoal, burgundy, forest green, and soft neutrals all look excellent on camera. They keep the focus on your face rather than your clothing.
Skip bright white and neon
Bright white can blow out in studio lighting. Neon colors create color casts on your skin. Off-white, cream, and light gray are safe alternatives.
Avoid busy patterns and logos
Thin stripes, small checks, and busy prints create a moiré effect on camera. Bold logos distract from your face. Stick to solids or very subtle textures.
Wear clothes that fit well
Clothes that fit properly look more polished and professional on camera. Avoid anything too tight or too loose. When in doubt, go slightly more fitted.
Bring multiple outfits
Bring 2–3 outfit options. A blazer or jacket adds polish for corporate shots. A more casual look gives you versatility. We can decide together on the day.
Grooming tips for the best results
Get a haircut 1–2 weeks before your session (not the day before). For men, shave the morning of or maintain your usual beard style. For women, style your hair as you normally would for an important meeting.
